2nd Workshop
When: 06.07
Where: Ślęza, Poland
Group: Youth workers
Introduction
In our recent emotional awareness workshop where we use arts as a therapy tool, we aimed to help young people manage their emotions, explore self-perception, and connect with their bodies through various expressive activities. The workshop included three main segments: clay throwing, painting paper masks, and a session titled "Connect with Your Body - Art Therapy through Movement."
Workshop Activities
Segment 1: Emotional Release with Clay Throwing
The workshop kicked off with a high-energy activity where participants threw clay against designated surfaces. This provided a physical outlet for their emotions.
This energetic and liberating activity enabled the youth to discharge their emotional tension effectively, creating a sense of relief and catharsis.
Segment 2: Connect with Your Body - Art Therapy through Movement
The final part of the workshop involved an art therapy session centered on movement. Participants engaged in guided physical activities designed to foster a deeper connection with their bodily sensations and emotions.
This activity emphasized mindfulness and the expression of emotions through body movements, helping participants to become more attuned to their physical and emotional states.
Segment 3: Self-Expression through Painting Paper Masks
Following the clay throwing, the atmosphere shifted to a quieter, reflective mood as participants painted paper masks.
Each participant depicted two aspects on their masks: their self-view and how they believe others perceive them. This exercise encouraged introspection and artistic expression.
This segment allowed participants to channel their creativity and reflect on their self-identity and social perceptions.
Reflections and Feedback
At the end of the workshop, participants had the opportunity to reflect and share their experiences and thoughts on each activity.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The youth appreciated the varied approach, enjoying the intense emotional release through clay throwing, the creative self-exploration through mask painting, and the mindful connection with their bodies through movement.
Many noted that the movement therapy segment was particularly impactful, enhancing their awareness of the interplay between their physical sensations and emotions.
Conclusions
This workshop underscored the effectiveness of integrating physical activities, creative arts, and movement therapy to address emotional issues among young people. The combination of these activities facilitated emotional expression, self-reflection, and body awareness, contributing to a holistic approach to emotional well-being. Regular implementation of such workshops can support the emotional and psychological development of youth.

Recommendations
Continue to offer regular workshops that blend physical, creative, and movement-based activities.
Introduce a variety of artistic and physical exercises to provide multiple avenues for emotional expression and bodily awareness.
Ensure a supportive environment where participants feel safe to share their reflections and emotions post-activities.
