5th Workshop

Photography and Music as Therapy in Youth Work (Hylatio)

The fifth local activity was implemented by youth worker Eirini Christofi. This 5th local activity was based on the second training course which took place in Latvia, which was training on trainers for Photography and Music as Therapy in Youth Work.

Present at the local activity was also Erma Georgiou, the trainer of the first project in Cyprus.

This local activity took place in Hylatio Tourist Village, in Limassol, Cyprus on the 15th of October 2024. With an audience of 35 youngsters and 7 adults, the activity was based on phototherapy tools as was taught to Eirini during the aforementioned training.

Participants, after receiving an introduction to the concept of phototherapy, were given free time to take photos in the nature around them.

The photos focused on two aspects.

The first, was how the photo represented themselves, and the second was based on the feelings that they were feeling at the time.

After selecting their photos, participants then, in pairs discussed their photos and why they chose them, then, in bigger groups, they were asked to describe the feelings and expressive aspect of the photos.

This means focusing on the color choices, angles, and perhaps most importantly, the subject of the photo. Interestingly, according to the nationality of the youngsters, different colors happened to represent a different emotion. Notably, Lithuanian participants took photos of yellow flowers, and claimed it was seen as more positive as purple flowers which were also in the vicinity.

An overall reflection took place at the end of the workshop, where participants (whoever felt comfortable) showcased their photos and their choices behind them in a bigger audience.
